Color Class – A Quilter’s Workshop – Houston

Color is integral to a Quilter’s tool box. Join Jan Mathews for a fun and informative journey through color. Class will be from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch break. Jan Mathews began teaching Color Theory at Houston International Quilt Festival in 2007 and continued every year until 2016. She continues to teach and study color at every opportunity and brings almost 20 years of information and color background specific to quilting to the classroom environment. If you want a playful and informative class in color with an emphasis on how to apply what you learn to fabric selection for your quilting project, this is a class you will want to take. Space is limited so reserve your spot. All current recommendations from the CDC will be observed.

Come to class with an attitude that will allow you to learn and play! There are no tests and no wrong answers so come prepared to enjoy yourself! (Fun is allowed, you know!)

What to Bring:

• Color Journal (see Notes below)
• Colored Pencils (sharpened and ready to color)
• Project (see Notes below)
• Paper and writing utensil (for notes)

Notes:

• Color Journal: Artist Sketch Book to a size not less than 6-1/2” x 9” to accommodates swatches. (Be reasonable – don’t bring in the HUGE sketch pads as you will then be imposing upon your neighbor – not to mention the difficulty with portability.)
• Project: if you have a work in progress that you aren’t pleased with or want assistance selecting fabric for the next section, bring it. The class, as a whole, will benefit from walking through the process of figuring out what might be “off” and how to remedy your dissatisfaction. NO STRESS, NO JUDGMENT; friendly group discussion and fun learning experience. If you do not have an “in process” project, bring a pattern you want some ideas for fabric selection (and any fabric you are thinking about for it).
• Books: Books on color are numerous!!! A recommended resource list will be circulated in class.
